God will reign on dead things in our lives. Hello everyone, and welcome to Dora's Listing, where faith, healing, and emotional wellness and personal growth come together. I am your host, Dora Hudson and Wu, licensed professional counselor, and I am so grateful that you have chosen to spend this time with me this evening. Tonight I have a word for anyone who feels tired, discouraged, forgotten, overlooked, disappointed, anxious, grieving, or simply wondering, God, what happens next? The title of today's episode is Dry Does Not Mean Dead. Let me say that again. Dry does not mean dead. Just because something isn't growing right now doesn't mean God is finished. Just because your finances are stretched doesn't mean God cannot provide. Just because your career has stalled doesn't mean your purpose has ended. Just because you are grieving doesn't mean joy will never return. And just because your faith has challenged, been challenged doesn't mean God has stopped working. Several years ago, I found myself in one of those seasons, you know, the kind, the kind where you keep praying but nothing seems to move, the kind where you keep showing up, doing the right thing, trusting God, helping others, and yet your own life feels stuck. As a counselor, I help people navigate anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship struggles, and life transitions every day. But even counselors have seasons where life becomes heavy. Even counselors have moments when they wonder what God is really doing. There were moments when I felt stretched beyond my comfort zone. Moments when I questioned whether I was on the right path. Moments when I wondered if the sacrifices were worth it. And yet every time I thought something was ending, God was actually preparing a new beginning. What looked dead wasn't dead. It was dormant. It was waiting for God's timing. One of my favorite passages is Ezekiel 37. The Lord takes Ezekiel into a valley filled with dry bones. Not fresh bones, not recently broken bones, but very dry bones. Bones that appeared beyond repair. And God asked Ezekiel a strange question. Ezekiel 37 and 3 is he said to Ezekiel, son of man, can these bones live again? What a question. God was asking Ezekiel to see possibility where everyone else saw impossibility. Tonight, God may be asking you the same question. Can your marriage live? Can your dream live? Can your peace return? Can your faith grow stronger? Can your family heal? Can your purpose be restored? Can your heart love again? Can your future still be bright? The answer is yes. Not because of your strength, but because of God's power. As a therapist, I often use cognitive behavioral therapy, CBT. And one of the central ideas is that our thoughts affect our emotions and behaviors. When we are hurting, our thoughts often become distorted. We begin believing things like nothing will ever change or God has forgotten me. I'll never recover. My best days are behind me. I'll always struggle. That's fear speaking. That's anxiety speaking. That's pain speaking. But God speaks to y'all. In the book of Romans twelve and two, it says, be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Notice here what the scripture is saying. It's saying transformation begins in the mind. Before circumstances change, your thinking must change. Before breakthrough arise, faith must rise. Before restoration appears, hope must return. What anxiety says versus what God says. Anxiety says, what if everything goes wrong? But God says in Isaiah 41 and 10, fear not, for I am with thee. Depression says nothing will ever get better. But God says in Jeremiah 29 and 11, for I know the plans I have for you. Fear says, you are alone. But God says in Deuteronomy 31 and 8, I will never leave you nor forsake you. Shame says you are not enough. But God says in Psalms 139 and 14, you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Now, what God waters cannot y'all stay dead. I want you to hear this. What God waters cannot stay dead. Your prayer life may feel dry. God can water it. Your marriage life may feel dry. God can water it. Your purpose may feel dry. God can water it. Your finances may feel dry, but God can water them. Your hope may feel dry, but God can water it. In the book of Isaiah 44 and 3, it says, For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty and floods upon the dry ground. You see, God specializes in dry ground. He specializes in impossible situations. He specializes in restoration. But what is he asking us to do? He's asking us to let go of idols. Now let's talk honestly. Sometimes we ask God to restore things while holding tightly to things. He asks us to release. Sometimes we place our identity in our careers, sometimes in money, sometimes in relationships, sometimes in titles, sometimes in other people's approval. And sometimes we trust our fears more than we trust God. In the book of Matthew, 6 and 33, it says, seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Now notice the order. God first, not after everything else, not when everything else fails. God first. See, this nation and God, there is a lot of happening in our world today. Conflict, division, fear, violence, confusion. And many people feel overwhelmed right now. Many people are asking where God is. But the darkness does not eliminate the light. In the book of John 1 and 5, it says, The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. God is still on the throne, y'all. God is still speaking. God is still in the saving business. God is still healing. God is still restoring. And God is still calling his people to trust him. You see, miracles happen every day. People are waiting for one big miracle, many of them. Meanwhile, God is performing thousands of small miracles every day. You wake up today or tomorrow. Miracle. You survived what should have been broken you. Miracle. You are still standing. Miracle. You still have purpose. Miracle. You still have breath in your lungs. Miracle. In the book of Lamentations 322 through 23, it says his mercies are new every morning. Every morning. Not sometimes. Y'all, every morning. We have to understand attachment when it comes to God. You see, in counseling, we talk about attachment. You know, every human being longs for security. We want to know someone is there. Someone sees us, someone loves us, someone stays. The beautiful thing about God is though, people may leave, people may disappoint you, people may betray you, people may misunderstand you. But guess what? God remains. In the book of Hebrew 13 and 5, it says, I will never leave you nor forsake you. That is the ultimate secure relationship. You see, restoration is coming, y'all. I believe someone listening today needs to hear this. Your story is not over. Your setback is not your ending. Your diagnosis is not your ending. Your grief is not your ending. Your divorce is not your ending. Your financial struggle is not your ending. Your anxiety is not your ending. Your dry season is not your ending. In the book of Joel 2 and 25, it says, I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten. You see, God restores y'all. He restores peace. He restores joy. He restores families. And he restores faith. And I want to take a moment. And I want to just reflect on what we just what we just heard. And before we close, I want us to take a moment together and take a deep breath in through your nose. Hold it. Now slowly release it. Again, breathe in God's peace. Release your fear. Breathe in God's promises. Release doubts. Breathe in God's hope. And release your anxiety. As you breathe, I want you to repeat these words. Dry does not mean dead. God is still working. God is still faithful. God is still restoring. And God is still writing my story. And yours too. I want to close on a prayer. Heavenly Father, thank you for being the God who brings light to dead things. Thank you for meeting us in our valleys and reminding us that dry does not mean dead. Restore every weary heart. Strengthen every struggling family. Bring peace to anxious minds. Bring comfort to grieving souls. Help us trust you when we cannot see the outcome. Help us release fear, doubt, and every idol that stands between us and you. Amen. Thank you for joining me tonight. And I want to invite you to continue to listen to me. If this episode encouraged you, share it with someone who needs hope. And remember, dry does not mean dead. The valley is not your final destination. Until next time, keep healing, keep growing, keep trusting, and keep listening for the voice of God. This is Dora Hudson and Wu. And you've been listening to Dora's Listening. Thank you. And good night.
